Every living thing and creature needs water so do we as humans need it as well in order to survive. The foods we eat contains some amount of water. This amount of water contained in the foods we eat are not enough to satisfy our body’s water needs. Water is the most important beverage need by the body. It is the only beverage that quenches thirst. Our health is at stake when the amount of water we take in is reduced.
WHEN DO I NEED TO DRINK WATER?
It is good to take water at all times but it is best to take in water for about 20 to 30 minutes before meals. Taking water during or after meals increases the volume of the your stomach. This dilutes the gastric juices in the stomach and this leads to slow digestion. Drinking water 2 or 3 hours before sleeping causes your sleep to be interrupted due to the need to urinate in the middle of the night.
HOW DO I KNOW I LACK WATER?
You can check whether you lack water in your body by the color of your urine. A pale yellow shows that you have enough water. A deep yellow or golden colored urine indicates lack of water in the body.
WHY DO I NEED TO TAKE WATER
Water is very significant to the body. Our bodies looses a lot of water during the day. The water we loose must be replenished by taking in a lot of water. Here are some benefits of taking in a lot of water;
- It improves renal functioning:
It aids in the production of clear urine. It also helps the kidney to cleanse the blood of waste materials. Taking in a lot of water helps to reduce the risk of kidney stones by diluting the salts and minerals in urine that causes it.
- It lessens the risk of thrombosis:
Taking in a lot of water reduces the risk of thrombosis( The clotting of blood within the blood vessels). This as a result of the fact that there’s less concentration in the blood due to high level of water intake.
- Deals with constipation:
There’s free bowel movement. The feces is softened and it is easy to get rid of it.
- Relieves headaches and migraines:
Most of the time, migraines and headaches are caused as a result of dehydration. Take a lot of water when you have a headache or migraine, this helps to reduce it.
