What Is Stress?

Stress is a feeling we get when everything is overloaded and we think we can’t cope. It can also be said to be anything that poses threat to us. Stress can be either negative or positive. Stresses are positive when they push you to do the things you have to and they get you going. They are negative when they belittle your physical and mental strength.

What causes stress?

There are a lot of things that causes stress. Anything that puts us under pressure can cause stress. Some of the causes of stress are;

  • Overwork:

This has to do with having excess work to do than your body can carry.

  • Environmental stress:

This comes as a result to our response to the things that exist around us.

  • Internal stress:

This comes as a result of worrying about some of the things we can do nothing about it.

What are the effects of stress on us?

Stress can cause a lot of effects on us. Here are some of them;

  • Chest pain
  • Obesity (over eating)
  • weight loss (eating much less)
  • back pain
  • Depression
  • restlessness
  • Anger( Sudden angry outbursts)
  • Anxiety
  • concentration problems
  • Irritability
  • sadness (frequent crying) etc.

How do I deal with stress?

Here are someways to deal with stress.

  • Talk to someone:

Speaking to someone about your stress can somewhat help in relieving you to a great extent. Doing this can help you to g et distracted from your stress or it help you to find a solution to what is stressing you. Talking can help in a great way to release tension.

  • Take charge:

Many at times, you face a problem and you think the problem is very big so you begin to think about the problem rather than the solution. When you are faced with a problem, try to think about the possible solutions to the problem. In that way the built up tension will be released knowing that for sure you are going to find a solution to your problem.

  • Rest:

when dealing with stress, you need to rest a lot. In case you feel tired, sick or worn out, take sometime off work and have a lot of rest.

  • Time management:

Make for yourself a to-do list in order of priority. Write down what you must to and what you just want to do. Make it a point to not which tasks must be done at the moment and those that have to be done in a week, month, year or when time allows. This way you don’t overburden yourself with doing a whole lot of things that might cause you to be stressed.

  • Do physical activities:

Whenever you feel stressed, try to do some physical activity for instance; taking a quick walk around. This helps you to clear your mind and release built up tensions.
